Trident Maple Seedlings (6-12")
These are first and second year Trident Maple seedlings that are 6 to 12 inches in height. All are grown from seed, and are healthy and established. Trees are shipped bare root, with roots wrapped in moistened paper and then plastic wrap. The first picture given is representative of the seedlings being offered, but is not a picture of the exact seedling(s) you will receive. The other pictures are of trees that I have grown from seedlings like the ones for sale in 3 years or less. All seedlings are currently in leaf and growing.
If you are looking for larger trees, please Contact Me or use the Chat function on the website. I have trees ranging from 1/4" to 2 1/2" trunk diameter, and I can send individual pictures depending on what you are looking for.
Important: Due to import quarantine laws, I can only ship these to the contiguous 48 states in the USA. Please do not order if you are outside of these states, as I will be unable to ship to you. If you do place an order and are outside of the shipping area, I will refund you promptly.
Trident maples (Acer buergeranium), also known as Kaede, are deciduous trees that are native to China, Taiwan, and Japan. They are generally hardy in USDA zones 5 through 9, and enjoy full sunlight in all but the hottest climates. Fast growing and hardy, they are very popular for bonsai because of how easy they are to work with while still having the potential to become show-quality trees. Leaves can be reduced in size smaller than a dime. Trident Maples are one of only two species that I personally grow, just because of how quick and simple they are to grow into respectable specimens.
Care Instructions
Upon receiving your seedlings, promptly remove them from the box and remove the plastic wrap, taking care not to damage the roots. Plant them in a small pot or in the ground, but do not place them in direct sunlight for 2 weeks. Make sure to water the trees daily, but allow the soil to dry slightly in between waterings. You may stick a chopstick (or your finger) into the soil about 2 inches deep to see how dry the soil is. If the soil is mostly dry above the 2 inch mark, water the tree. It is normal for the leaves to wilt slightly for the first week or so after being planted. After 2 weeks, slowly transition them so that they get 4-6 hours of sunlight per day. When the trees are acclimated and show signs of growth, you may give them full sunlight if you want. If you live in a very hot climate, it may be wise to limit the amount of direct sunlight to avoid leaf burn and to prevent the roots from drying out too much within the course of a day.
Return Policy
Please inspect your seedlings promptly upon receiving them. If any are damaged or do not appear healthy, please contact me with pictures and I will send replacements. This must be done within 7 days of receipt. Your seedlings should arrive healthy and ready to grow; however, I am not responsible for the trees after their initial period of adjustment to their new home.
